Finnish War Movies

Beyond the Front Lines

Director: Ake Lindman
Release Date: March 2004

This movie is based upon the diary of Harry Jarv who served in Infantry Regiment 61 during the Continuation War. This regiment was made up of Swedish speaking Finns and probably Swedish volunteers. Harry led many small raiding missions beyond the front lines into Russian territory. He took a camera with him and his photos are seen throughout the movie. It is a realistic depiction of the small unit tactics used by the Finns during their war with Russia.

I saw it on You Tube with English subtitles but it has since been taken down. It may be difficult to find on this side of the pond and if you try to order it, it will probably be in European format.
